Strut top-nut removal problem 900

I was planning on changing the strut mount on the 940 as it's creaking on turns. I did the struts a couple of years ago and it has been that way since then

Anyway, when I went to remove the top nut, using an allen in the top of the strut rod, the allen will no longer hold the rod. It is rounding the hole. I'm wondering if I can just loosen it with an impact. On the 240 I went to a guy nearby who loosened it and I carefully drove home

Any Ideas how I can put the hold on the top of the strut rod. Should I replace the strut? Any one have this problem before?
