broken heater defrost control 200

My blower only functions on heater and floor mode (no defrost). I took the center console out and didn't see any obviously disconnected vacuum lines. Is the vacuum created by the blower itself? Is floor passage the default? I will take more of the front apart tomorrow. How can I check for bad vacuum? It could also be a stuck louver. What else could cause the problem? The did not come with AC.
