245's heater too hot:) 200 1989

Here's a funny issue with my 1989 245. My car, it has a heater that seems perfect for those frigid Swedish winters but not so much for our temperate Seattle climate. The heater seems either off or blasting and if I move the temperature control even the slightest "tick" to the right from off, the inside of the car gets so hot that I have to turn it off. Its this constant dance between too cold and too hot with 90% of the scale on the temperature control unused.

What can I do so that the control makes it hot on the right hand side and cold on the left hand side and nice and adjustably warm in the middle?

Thanks.
