Soundproofing suggestions sought 444-544

Hello Gentlemen,
I love my '59 Duett. But, I can't enjoy a conversation with my wife because the noise in the car is so loud! So, I'm looking at my options and can really use your advice.
Currently, my car has just a thin layer of cheap carpet, which I will remove.I researched Dynamat Extreme & it seems to get pretty good reviews, so I'm thinking of buying it & laying it down on the body. Then what? Should I replace the carpet with carpet or woud the rubber mats provide better sound deadening capacities? Anything else?
And, very importantly, there is nothing on the interior of my firewall, just the metal firewall. I suspect this is an area that needs to be soundproofed. I suspect that when new it must have had some kind of covering. Has anyone addressed this?
And any other soundproofing tips would be greatly appreciated
As always, thanks in advance for any & all advice.Regards,
Jim
