Intermittant no start - Coil question 700 1990

I am trying to figure out the intermitant no start problem on my car. Here is the symptom that has me puzzled. At the coil, I measure 12 volts at the blue wire/No. 15 terminal with the key on, but I often get nothing at the red/white wire No. 1 terminal. Which way does the electricity flow? Again, this is intermittant, some times I get voltage at 1 (and the corresponding connector at the powerstage) and sometimes I do not. It makes no sense to me. I have replaced the coil and the powerstage, which I did not really think was the problem but I was desperate to try things and figured that changing these things after 20 years can only improve reliability even if it is not the problem and maybe it was something internal to these devices that was the intermittant issue. Any help would be appreciated. I have the wiring diagram but I am not exactly sure which way the electricity flows. I have zero confidence that the car will restart once I shut it off. I really want my 16 yr old son to be driving it to school if I can figure out the problem.
