Skandix seat belt replacement woes 140-160 1969

I just got a pair of replacement seat belts for my '69 164. Has anyone else had this problem? When I installed them, the latch handles are turned backwards, away from the receivers. I first thought maybe I put them in wrong or that there was a left and right. Neither was the case. In order to have the latches facing inward correctly, I would need to mount the mechanism upside down! The only work-around is to flip the handles around on the strap through the very narrow slit in the latch handles. What a joke.
