There is a concept called "Preventative Maintenance". You should embrace it.

What is the most that you can spend for a gallon and a half of 21st century formula anti-freeze? Flush the system? Definitely, and more frequently than every five years from now on.

Clean/Flush your brake lines as well. That particular liquid is hygroscopic (attracts and retains water) and can cause serious rusting problems at the Wheel cylinders and thereabouts if you allow it to accumulate. Setting dormant for long periods only makes matters worse.

Transmission and Differential fluids also need to be changed with boring regularity (every 25,000 miles according to the Volvo Service Manual).

Find each and every Grease Zerk fitting - front to rear - and become familiar with them as well.

All of these processes are CHEAP! If you aren't sure, do it!
