Rear Suspension Reinforcements? 120-130

Hello, this is my first post on this forum. I have been doing some searching, but I haven't found what am looking for.

I am about to completely overhaul the rear suspension. I have bought new bushing, shocks, springs, and torque rods. The rear suspension mounts are solid, but I have read that Bilstein shocks can do damage to the mounts over time (at least for the P1800). Is this also true for the Amazon?

I am thinking of securing some steel plates to the top and bottom shock mounts. What gauge steel should I use and is it ok to secure them with bolts instead of welding them?

I would appreciate any insight or experience that you have had with Bilstein shocks.
