I'm a computer programmer, it's fun to tinker with my car via the laptop. It controls the gas, the ignition, the electric rad fan, the boost controller. I set it up with a dash switch to change between E85 and gasoline - so I can switch on the fly without needing a laptop - the two fuels get different fuel, spark, and boost control maps. And it allows me to do things that the stock ECU's would never allow - like build a 300 WHP 16V turbo motor. it the occasional bout of wrenching, followed by lots of tweaking via laptop.
Kind of a big generational gap between it and my all old school carbed (DCOE's) PV.
Sometimes people reqire the entire engine bay, makes it a bigger project. And might be worth the effort if you have the late 80's bio-degradable wiring looms. But it's easy enough to build an adapter harness. Just look at the MS input requirements for each wire, then look at the Volvo wiring diagrams. The Bosch computers have most of what MS needs, it's jsut a matter of figuring out which terminal goes to which terminal. You can get an old/junkyard Bosch computer and hack it apart to make a plug-in end fot he car side of the harness. You could even make it so it could be switched back to Bosch computers quickly if need be. Mine was like that for a while, helped ease me over the FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt).
