When shifting my 244DL's M46, I notice quite a bit of movement (roll, not pitch or yaw) of the transmission. It's enough that when I rev up to 3 or 4K in first, I may not be able to get the transmission into 2nd for a few seconds after letting off the clutch.
I thought the transmission mount looked new when I replaced the engine mounts, so I didn't replace it. I'm sure the TABs are shot and the rear axle is pitching up and down.
Is the transmission mount letting the transmission twist, or can something else cause it?
Also, at engine speeds below 1500, there is vibration and noise from the driveline that sounds like a u-joint or bearings rumbling, but the more I drive it, the less I think it's the actual transmission rumbling. The vibration's present, but much milder at higher engine speeds and on the highway.
The front wheel bearings were shot, and I think the rears are too. When going down a hill, clutch in, and pulling the e-brake I get a very pronounced shudder. It's more intense when there's less weight on the rear axle. Can bad rear wheel bearings cause driveline vibration?
If the rear wheel bearings can't, I would suspect a bad, or at least dry, u-joint.
Thoughts from the more experienced would be appreciated.
