fuel? ignition? problem 700 1987

I recently finished working a cold start problem with my '87 740 turbo (I'll go through that in a reply if you think it's relevant). Started it, (started the very first try, which it's never done since I owned it!) went for a test drive, shut it off at the gas station, when I went to start it up again it would only chug away at about 400 rpm for 30 secs or so, and die when it seemed to try picking up a normal idle on it's own, or when I touch the throttle.
'87 740 turbo, LH 2.4 injection(I think), and ezk117 ignition. Fuel pumps appear to be working correctly (I don't have access to press. gauges but it flows hard when I open the return line), I am getting pulses at the injectors when I probe wtih a test light, air bypass valve seems to work, and replacing my ingition system components with spares doesn't change anything. It seems suspiciously like a vacuum leak, (in an old carburated machine that would be my first though) but I can't find one.
Anyone able to give me a clue to this mystery?
