It's a 1992 740 turbo wagon. I just replaced a failed high pressure fuel pump. I installed a quality pump....or what should be....from AutoZone. So the car runs again. It seemed perfect, but then when I took it out on the road for the first time, the engine has a very brief (like half a second)loss of power, like total. You see the RPM gauge drop down low on the scale, but engine power comes on again before it can reach zero. It only happens when car is being driven. As long as it is standing still, there is never any momentary cut-out at all, at any speed. Going up a hill/increased load doesn't seem to increase the occurrence of the power cut-out. Also it hardly ever has hiccups while at highway speed, its mostly a problem at lower speeds. I don't have any way now to monitor the fuel rail pressure while driving, as my fuel press gauge hose is too short to allow bringing the gauge into the pass. compt. Maybe it's a glitch with the ignition, or intmt coil? Again, I can't monitor what is happening with the sparkplugs while driving. but then it seems suspicious that this is happening right after a fuel pump change. Ideas?
