heater/blower motor troubles 700 1989

hi-
so my bertone's heat doesn't work, and i assumed it was the blower motor. it does not blow any air at any speed, nor does it make any noise save a slight hum now and again when i turn the controls, which stops after a couple seconds.

i bought another motor (of course it was the wrong one), but found the right one and it just came in today. i installed it and i have the exact same problem-still gives me a little hum when i play around with the controls for a few seconds. i did buy it used, but what is the likelihood that i got a defective motor? does this sound like it could be something else instead?

i was reading around the FAQs and saw that there's some sort of hose which i never saw, but that wouldn't explain why the motor doesn't turn on. it also says to make sure to connect the ground but i also do not remember seeing that, and i figure the motor with two connectors has the ground right there.
