Emergency brake cables - am I stuck with expensive upgrade to new style? 700 1990

My 1990 740 is in the shop (local indy) for a required safety inspection. I snapped the emergency brake cable just last week (of course). The mechanic says I need a right side cable (the short one) and a pivot bracket, the one that connects the right cable to the long left cable. Apparently Volvo has switched to a new setup and the right cable is no longer available. The new setup uses completely different cables and the estimated cost is $200 for the new kit. Anyone know of a parts source for the old right cable and centre pivot? FCP Grouton does sell the left and right cables but the mechanic says he has found that they do not fit. Nor is a pivot listed. Advice?

Bill
