1st gear hop 85 245 200 1985

This is a long shot and I only mention it since you mention you were recently working on the OD. This also assumes your transmission mount and U-joints are fine and your parking brake isn't sticking on (or breaking into pieces which get stuck and then break into bits). Some earlier M46 OD units (around 1979-1980) had a problem with the 1-way clutch (not the friction/cone clutch), this happened on my 245DL, every once in a while during an aggressive launch in 1st gear there would be a loud bang and the car would lurch for a second and would then be ok. Power delivery was momentarily interrupted when the bang occurred - the only physical explanation I have is that the 1-way clutch "slipped"/rotated one position as if the rollers somehow rode over the ramps. At just under 200k miles the 1-way clutch finally broke into ~8 pieces.
