Remote-style shifter in a 122? 120-130

First question: Will the remote style shifter on a 1800-sourced M41 fit into an AUTOMATIC 122 trans tunnel without major modification? I know the automatic tunnel is wider, but is it any taller? Looking at the transmission on the floor of my garage, the height of the remote extension looks to be the problem (not the width, as with a T5 conversion).

Second question: Given the option, is having the remote style shifter a worthwhile upgrade? Can a strong case be made for it over the school bus version? (I have both top cover and shifter setups, so I could go for either).

Thanks in advance for any input.
