940 electrical quirk 900

Weird thing happened today- driving home from work and all of a sudden I get 5 instrumentation warning lights go on- Brake failure,parking brake,service,
bulb failure,battery(gen. not charging). I didn't know what was amiss at that point but the engine was still running so I drove the last few miles home. When I got home I popped the hood and just found the Alt. belt was broke. Question is, why did all those other lights come on, not just the Battery/alt. not charging light?
