Shiftlock/startproblems when its really cold out. 200 1991

It looks like quite a lot of work to remove that solenoid. Can you or Bob share some details? Specifically, how was it removed or bypassed? Can this be done without crawling under the car, disconnecting the linkage and removing the shifter mounting bolts?

In the '91, the yellow release lever pushes the solenoid plunger out of the shifter lever, so removing or breaking the lever does not disable the shift lock, but just makes it impossible to release.
