Volvo 240 alternator: will one from a '90 fit an '83? 200

The backstory: in 2006, we bought our son an '83 Volvo 245 to take to college. Manual tranny, full IPD suspension, a really sweet car. It has performed flawlessly. Yesterday was his final day of classes (magna cum laude, thanks very much), and in driving out to celebrate, the wagon decided that it too was finished 8-)

It's probably just the alternator. It's a 70a model, internal regulator. I'm hammered for cash right now, and my '90 wagon (our spare car) has a brand new alternator in it. Is it likely that it would fit the '83?
