I just installed a new Jurgen rebuilt power rack and pinion in my 780. The old one had 230k on it, and both boots were leaking oil. Installation went well, much easier than replacing the airdam was. Did all the essentials, bleeding the system, having it aligned. Now, I have a god awful 'tight' spot just 45 degrees in the right hand direction- feels like it is catching, and it isn't occuring when steering left. Well, actually, with the wheels straight on the ground, engine running, it is 45 degrees from dead center to the left and right, more prominent to the right. When I had the lower steering u-joint off the steer shaft and pinion shaft, I checked for any play and found none. When I place my hand on the u-joint and turn it in the offending direction, while the engine is running, it has a definite 'tight' spot and it feels like the rack itself, or the ball joints (which have maybe 50k on them)are binding. Nothing visual gives any hint at what is going on other than the physical temporary binding. I have read the information about the upper and lower steering u-joints. Neither of them show any unusual wear, or outrageous play. The alignment is good, as it doesn't pull in any direction on a straightaway. But it is hella scary on narrow roads with curves. I spoke with the jurgen tech, he thinks it is the u-joints. But after the hand on the ujoint, turning the shaft, it feels like the rack and pinion. Anyone have anything like this with a 700 series rack and pinion replacement? thanks in advance, fred
