Winshield gaskets has shrunk? 200 1980

The aluminum and rubber trim is just for looks. It has no function to keep water out -- that is done by the butyl rubber seal between glass and pinchweld.

If you replace the windshield, you will be advised to get a 91+ version with the rubber only trim to avoid dealing with the old aluminum trim and clips.

Rubber shrinks with age.
