Spacer required for front strut cartridge installation? 200

I am ready to install KYB GR-2 front strut cartridges on a 1991 240. While looking online for the cartridge installation instructions, I found many online parts store specified required Volvo part 1229423-7, which is a rubber spacer installed under the cartridge, for the installation.

I have never installed one of these replacement cartridges before. Do I really need the spacers for the installation?
