cruise control - set button sticking 900 2003

When I engage cruise by pushing in the button on the end of the turn signal lever, the button often sticks in the depressed position. A bit tricky, because this first engages cruise at the current speed, and then proceeds to accelerate! I have to tap pretty hard on the end of the lever to get it to pop back out.

I'm wondering what I should use to try to lubricate the button to stop it sticking. I thought of using some lubricant - light oil, graphite, silicon - but I'm concerned that these might affect the electrical contact of the switch. I'm always concerned using spray silicon; I've seen it melt certain plastics. I used a contact cleaner in the past (de-oxit/cramolin), which I believe includes some lubricating properties - but it doesn't seem to help for long.

Thanks,
