245 vs V70 in slippery roads

Yesterday we had 4-5" of snow and a little freezing drizzle last night. I took my '87 245 to town this morning and there were ice free tracks on the highway (2 cars in the ditch and one accident in 30 miles). The 240 did not seem to react to running up on the icy strips.

Tonight we took dinner to a friend who just had a knee replacement. Same road, slightly less ice than this morning. Mary's V70 hunted like crazy on the slippery spots. She has slightly newer tires and the low tire was at 34psi (vs 35 for the rest). It was very uncomfortable to drive.

Any idea what's going on ?

Thanks

Greg
