how long can one drive on a bad clutch? 200 1992

I would adjust it and hope that helps a little. It's time for a new clutch, one way or another.
If you have another car, I would take the other car. How much would you save in gas vs pay for a tow all the way home? The grapevine is no fun to get stuck on.

I've only had a clutch stop working the way riverbend described when a slave cylinder died on a hydraulic clutch. Power shifted it to town (through the gears twice) and then got it towed. If it's wear, the car will simply all but stop moving.

If your clutch goes all the way on the grapevine, you might start rolling downhill the wrong way. Bad, Bad situation to be in.

Good Luck and drive safely.
