76 242 Alternator mount 200

Th alternator on my brother's mongrel 242 went up. He pulled it out and had it rebuilt and ran into an issue on reinsallation.

The upper mount is an oldfasioned slot type with a carraige bolt to hold the arm to the alternator. Our problem is at the other end. There is a bushing, thorugh which I would think there would be a bolt to attach it to the block. If there was a bolt, its gone. The bushing at the block end fits over a tube that sticks out of the block maybe 1/8 to 3/16 of an inch. It will stay there when every thing is tightned down, but its difficult to believe that is all there is to hold it on. Removing the bolt at the alternator end causes the upper mouting arm to simply fall off into the bowels of the engine compartment. We didn't find any stray parts in the belly pan, and are somewhat confused. I tried a couple of sizes of bolts in the hole inside the tube and didn't get a match. Yes they were metric. Probing the hole with a piece of wire didn't reveal a lot of depth.

This is all made more interesting in that its impossible to see the spot where the arm mounts to the block. Everything I know has come from feeling my way.

Does anyone have a picture of how this goes together? Better yet, does anyone have a parts diagram of how it attaches? I found a website for classic volvo parts some time back, that had the actual parts manuals, but can't seem to find it now. I think it was actually accessed through the Volvo website. Does anyone remember how to get there?

Help is appreciated.

Thanks

Zimm
