Is brake pad dust toxic? 200

They are MOSTLY non asbestos there is still some present in some linings.
When I think back over 35 years ago when it was standard procedure when we did brake jobs to *re-arc* the new shoes, which was to set them up in a special jig and SAND the suckers down until they matched the profile of the drums and of course blow out the loose stuff in teh backing plates before scrubbing them down. THis was all WAY before they broke the news about asbestos killing everyone off. If you went into a reline factory the place would be so thick in the air you could hardly see and no respirators

Still run risk of silicosis from light mineral dust even in the most environmentally friendly pads. Always wash with spray brake clean as mentioned
