You bring up a very good point Art. The coolant sensor could have a temperature dependant fault. As for limp home mode causing backfiring, I have to disagree, if that is what you were trying to say in the post-script, as I am not certain if you meant to fault the computer, or if the statement is incidental.

Reading through the Alter-Schwede.de message board yielded additional information. I was going to post the text, but as I write I now believe that a paraphase will be more then sufficent. Basically, the gentleman had trouble with his B230F equipped Volvo 240. The car would run great when cold, then suddenly start running terribly, and he would have to give throttle or the RPMs would drop off. The culprit was the not the AMM per say, as he had changed it and cleaned the contacts. Answers indicated the FPR as an exact same problem solution (I know that you have changed this already), and the airbox thermostat flapper jamming (which you should check).
