1992/740 - 222K -- Rex Regina Fuel Pump Quandry -- To Replace or Not to Replace in 2011? 700

I have a 1992 740 that I purchased for $2.5K in 2003. It's run very well the whole time until recently (new head gasket & fuel pump relay required 2010). I don't have the maintenance records from the previous (1 owner). For some (possibly irrational) reason, I'm concerned that the fuel pump will fail at the most inconvenient time. I'd like to be able to depend on this car -- should I go ahead and replace the fuel pump in 2011 -- or is it almost certain that the original fuel pump had been replace by now by the previous owner?

The Regina fuel pump procedure in the FAQ looks challenging but do-able -- and I have a back up car so I can take all the time I want.

Should I tackle the fuel pump next or focus on the suspension?

Thanks!

Rob
