One often overlooked item in maintaining optimum MPG is automatic transmission/torque converter issues. A tranny that's even a quart or two low in fluid can result in slip, and significantly affect mileage.

If you have a tach, look at the RPMs at cruise, in overdrive, then use one of the online RMG/MPH calculators for comparison. If your RPM reading is higher, then you're losing connection between the flywheel and the rear end.
