Hello, I am new to the Brickboard. I just purchased a 1994 940 sedan (nonturbo) with 116k miles. I don't have much of the past maintenance history, but only know that the oil changes were done at reasonable intervals, and the timing belt @ 104k miles.
It shows some lack of attention since 2007 when a very young driver was at the helm. I didn't get a chance to drive on the open road before purchasing , and only after driving for the first hr. did I notice that auto trans is not shifting correctly all the time. I usually always buy a 5spd for durability and fun, and once again this case proves out my theory. I believe the car was sittiing idle for 1+ years and was revived just before I bought it. The o/d worked on my first ride, but only after completely @ operating temp. Not having a manual with the car, is the small oval button on the face of the shift lever supposed to activate the o/d? Or ???? The O/D, when it did engage was coming in @ 48 mph. Now when I reach that speed I only hear a high pitched continuous beep from the console.
I can only assume that the issue is not a catastophic one, considering the lower miles and reputation of Volvo. My old 240 5spd. wagon had an electric o/d... Is this electric as well? I'm hoping it's just a relay, switch or solenoid issue. Can anyone offer some guidance or suggestions?
Also, what else should I need to check out at this mileage with regard to potential trouble areas?
Thanks to all....SwissMaster(a.k.a. Bob)
