240 Turbo Performance Worth the Cost? 200

So, for many years I have toyed with the idea of buying a 240 turbo as a "fun" car. I have never driven one so I do not know whether the performance justifies the maintenance and fuel costs. 162 horsepower does not seem like much compared to a modern car....then again the K-jet might be more reliable and less costly to repair than LH Jet.

Are the turbos really sensitive to oil changes, cool down time etc? I have heard that the oil cooled turbos are only good for 75-100K miles and then need a rebuild - true?

Final question, seems like most of the remaining 240 turbos are automatics. Is this a better match to the turbo engine as far as gearing and keeping the turbo spooled up? Or just a coincidence?

Thanks.
