Change PS Pulley location - closer to pump? 200 1988

I recently replaced the rack and pump on my '88 244, and found that the pulley on the new pump from the PnP is set 1-2mm forward from where it was set on the previous one. As the belts are slightly misaligned, there is occasionally squealing. Looking through the archives and FAQ shows that a puller is recommended for removing the pulley - any tips for setting it closer? Large socket and taps with a rubber mallet?

Thanks,
Zach
