Head Swap WIN!!!! 700 1992

Finally discovered the cause of the no-start after head swap...the drive cog on the distributor that I rebuilt last year. I installed it 180 degrees out of synch. I removed the offending distributor, drove out the pin with a tapered drift ( as per the FAQ's),rotated the shaft 180 degrees...then disaster hit. One of the fabric washers decided to disintegrate and I was going to be stuck with a wobbling shaft (not good). Luckily I had an extra Bosch 2.2 distributor that I was able to cannibalize for the correct washer, but also the more free drive cog and pin. After installation, Inga started on the second crank and has run perfectly since...no more clattering and clanking of the engine on start up.
Should I pitch the OEM head or try to refurnish it? I imagine it will take a new set of cam spacers to stop the diesel like clanking on startup.
Is it worth the trouble?
Thanks,
el raidman
