How to replace Back up light switch 200 1985

1985 245 manual transmission.

Back up lights failed about 6 months ago.

Car on rack. Problem is switch failure. Good power to switch. Lights come on when switch bypassed.

Got replacement switch.

How to replace??????

I was able to loosen but not remove the switch due to switch location.

I then disconnected drive shaft and dropped transmission as much as possible without removing transmission from engine. Still no go.

What am I missing? Do I need to remove the transmission in order to replace this $10 switch?
