Can you help identify this engine compartment noise? (audio file link)

My wife reminded me that she had brought this to my attention some time ago, so evidently it is not new to this car. Probably just a temporary condition that it went away, thinking it will creep back at some point.

No belly pan, but I really don't think it is caused by debris.

Temperature gauge rock steady at 12:00.
