Distributor Replacement Question. 700 1990

You were right, it is leaking. There was some in the distributor cap. I went to the junkyard to practice removing and installing. It was just as you said. Easy enough. I need to get a seal from the local autoparts and replace. Quick follow-up question, I have be struggling with intermittent starting problems. Starts when it is cold, more often does not when it is hot. I have changed out all the key relays, coil, power stage etc. The other night when it would not start I put in one of those harbor freight inline spark lights. It was flashing weak or at odd times that did not look like the periodic flash of a running engine. My follow-up question is whether or not oil leaking into the cap around the seal could be interfering with transfer of spark. I am not sure if oil is a conductor but I would think not. Thank you so much, I am close to having to take it to an expert on my periodic no start problem, but I would much prefer to figure out solution with help of the forum. Not so much the money as knowing how one's machine works and being able to be somewhat self sufficient. Thank again.
