90-240 front strut R&R. Ive done the research. Any words of wisdom? 200

I have the Lyle type tool which should be ok for loosening the top nut, and Im getting the OEM 25550 spring compressor from autozone.
I do have a couple of concerns:

1>.I want to douse the strut gland nut with PB blaster a few times. How do I get the skirt up to reach the gland nut, without destroying it. Or, will I only be able to reach it after I get it out?

2>.Im also debating with myself about the best tools to hold the strut and remove the gland nut, and if its realistic to think I can loosen it before getting the strut from under the car. Or should I be resigned to waiting til I get it out? I dont have a spanner.

I have a couple pipe wrenches(14" and 18"). Are these big enough. Should I get bigger? Or should I use something else?

Ive done lots of work on the 5 bricks that Ive owned, and Im a pretty good mechanic now. But Ive never done this job before. The concept seems simple enough, but I do understand that there could be some "Gotchas" lurking.

What parts would you suggest that I have on hand, just in case.

Ive done the control arm bushings, replaced the tie rods. The ball joints are good(lemforders, with 100,000miles on them), but Im wondering if changing them would be a good idea? Any reason not to expect another 100,000 miles from them. Or maybe half that?
Its probably worth mentioning that this is,and has always been a california car.
And the strut inserts were changed once before, 100,000 miles ago.

Im open to all comments, insights, suggestions, etc.

Thanks brickboard.
