90-240 front strut R&R. Ive done the research. Any words of wisdom? 200

I replaced my strut inserts a year ago, and it wasn't as bad of a job as I thought.

-I used an impact wrench to loosen the top strut nut.

-Use the spring compressors with care, and make sure that they are on the opposite sides of each other, and apply pressure evenly to each side.

I used a strap wrench to hold onto the strut while I used a special tool to loosen the gland nut. A little PB Blaster or other such lube might help loosen a stuck nut.

-When tightening the new gland nut, I wrapped duct tape around the new strut, so that just in case my wrench slipped, I didn't gouge the new strut.

-Keep in mind that once the strut housing is free from the car, that it can swing quite easily, and that it is also somewhat heavy.

Good luck with your project, and be careful!

If it needs to be maintained, repaired or replaced on a 1990 240, I've probably done it. '90 240DL, 298.3K looking forward to 300K badge (or sticker??). >>You haven't really worked on a car until you draw blood<< :-}
