wheel offset and backspacing 1800

Virgos have the later PCD for 1800E/disc brake rear end cars. Likely that the '68 is the earlier PCD. 7" widened steel rims say rat look racer to me (pics can prove me wrong of course). Apart from clearance problems, with the extra weight of the wheels and tyres, the suspension will have a hard time keeping them gripping the road through those bumpy bends. Lighter is better, lighter than stock even better.
As said, 5 1/2 -6" wheels with good tyres will give you all the grip and road holding you can handle. IMO that is, which isn't the same as everyone's, and I'm cool with that!
