The mangled looking horseshoe shaped wire clips that hold the door and window handles can be frustrating to deal with but they can be removed easily with a plier type tool made for 50's & 60's (maybe later too) GM car window/door handles. I think the specialty tool company KD makes them--found in any auto parts store--or --I doubt if there's any mechanic alive over 50 that doesn't have at least two of them floating around in their tool box--maybe you can borrow a pair at your local garage. The "escutcheon" (plastic washer between the handle and the door panel) gets pushed inward to expose the clip and the tool gets inserted opposite the open end of the clip--the jaws of the tool will catch the clip--give it a wiggle and it will pop free. Remove the lock button and upper metal panel and the arm rest/door pull (phillips screws). Now you just need a couple of flat scraper type tools (I use a forked gardening tool) slipped between the panel and the inner door frame to pry the retaining clips out of the holes in the door. -- Dave
