2002's were great!

Yeah, I had a few old BMW's...

The round taillight cars were the best, weren't they! My 69 1600, 71 2002 and 73 2002 had the classic roundlights and the chrome bumpers. IMO - the best of the lot were the 72 and 73's. The ultimate 2002's. A nice 72 2002tii with the higher output Kugelfischer fuel injection is worth some real money today.

First, I had a 69 1600 (the beatmbobile: rusted out, needed a valve job, very reliable, took a licking and kept on ticking - only car I have ever made money on - I bought it for $185! and resold for $400 having put just a waterpump in it). A 71 2002 parts car. A 76 2002 that ended up being used as a second car since shortly thereafter I bought a pristine, low mileage 78 320i. Though not as much fun to drive as a 2002, the 320i did prove to be a very dependable car.

Saved a paragraph for the best of the lot, a 1973 2002 which I drove for almost 100k miles before I sold it at 184k. Loved that car. Trannies were only good for about 100k so I did one of those (only $400 then) and a valve job. New shocks and a Weber 2 barrel manual choke carb, a tii distributor and my pocket rocket was hell on wheels!

Thanks Rhys, it was nice to reminisce for a few minutes...
