buying 700 700

I'm looking at buying a 700 series sedan. I currently own a 94 940 wagon. Both are 8v non-turbos. In my research I've read a lot about the changes to the b230F that ocurred during different years, but I'm still not totally sure about model changes with the 7 series. I understand that in 1990 there were significant changes to the crank and the rod thickness, which is considered a bonus. I also read that 93+ motors got better oil delivery. Do all of the 1990 740s have the improved motor, or only part of the production run. Is the 1990 a solid year, and is there anything else I should watch out for? Also, was ABS standard on 1990 740s? And finally, it appears that the car has an AW70 trans, as opposed to the AW71 in my 940 (which has been very reliable). Are there drawbacks to the AW70?

The 740 in question has far fewer miles than my 940, and is great cosmetic condition, which is why I'm looking at it even though it is a few years older. Also I tend to like the styling on the 740 sedan quite a bit.

thanks
