A/C Advise Badly Needed

I know this isn't the time of the year to talk about air conditioning, but, for once in my life I want to prove my wife wrong and take care of something before I find myself in the middle of a war.

I'm about to get back a 1990 240 which my dear daughter has used for a few years. The a/c is once again not working even after several patch jobs at independent garages. From what she has told me, I think one of the garages dropped in some R134a. Other than the queefed out A/C, this car is in fine condition, so I want to bring the A/C back to life.

I had planned to use a Volvo R134a Retrofit Kit (P/N 9134808-6), but I am told it is no longer available.

Can anyone suggest how to approach this problem in such a manner that the result is worth the effort and expense?

Thanks one and all,

Rich
