Yet Another E-Code Question 200 1993

I know this topic has been discussed ad nauseum, and I've spent a good time searching for the answer but can't find it here.... I have a set of OEM E-Codes to install on my '92 245, and I want to know if it's really necessary to do the whole army of relays thing, or is just getting the adapter sufficient. I thought I had read here a while back that the relays don't do a whole lot. And frankly, the less work I have to do and the simpler the install the better asfaic. Now, I'd be willing to do it if the result is a dramatic improvement in performance, safety, or durability than an otherwise stock installation. Otherwise I'm happy to spend my time and money on other items on the to do list.

Sorry for beating a dead horse here, but thanks in advance for advice/suggestions.
