Quick question on coolant leak 200 1993

1993 245 NA

I have a fairly fast coolant leak (1 gal/2 weeks).

I kind of like it, because it makes sweet smelling steam come out of the grille, and then I can pretend that I am in the tropics, instead of icy Wisconsin.

I have located the source of the leak If I follow the hose that brings the coolant from the top of the radiator to the thermostat housing on the top of the engine, and then look at where the thermostat housing bolts on to the engine, it is wet.

Dried with towel, revved engine, and confirmed that at least some of the leak is coming right between the thermo housing & engine.

Neither oil nor coolant fluid looks cloudy/milky.

I replace the thermostat a few months back, and I don't remember seeing a gasket between the thermostat housing & the engine. My guess is that I goofed up.

Should there be a gasket there?
Do I need to fix the leak, or am I ok just topping off the fluids until it is warm enough to work on the car?

Thanks!
