little by little, i'm getting her ready for my big move to seattle :-) question about OD in an auto 84 245 200 1984

sometimes it works, sometimes it don't. no rhyme or reason for it, sometimes hot, sometimes not. fuse it good, switch is functioning. would one of those blockout blocks from ipd be worth it? it seems like a good idea, but i don't want to prematurely smoke the tranny, because it will always want to get to 4th? also don't feel like plunking down the $218 for a new solenoid. is there a way to rebuild the one that is in there? also gave her a monster 18 quart tranny flush, 3 days ago, but still no dice. but she needed it anyways. thanks in advance to the volvo geniuses.

Jay..
