time to start fuel pump job

hi sages- got my 92 240 wagon on saturday. runs well overall. have prioritized the order of 7 needed repairs. 1st is priority b/c dont want to get stranded with no gas. need to replace non working tank fuel pump with sending unit. can get unit for 188. figure a dealer would want 10k for the job. could one ofyou give me a fast tutorial . seems it screws out from an access plate on top of floor. this is a wagon with a 3d seat. how do i access the plate/ hole? haynes not much help. thought it was under the little carpet piece where you put your feet as you sit in the 3d seat. external pump still works and is running car as it is the high pressure pump. uncle moe says dont need the tank pump since other pump has enough suction to run car. dont want to count on that though. still a newbie so all your advice is appreciated. hope somebody here has done the tank pump in a 2d seat 240 wagon. thanks tons oldduke
