If you are looking for a cheap work horse, I'd go with the 940.

I went from a small pick-up to a 144 years ago. At the time I was thinking the same thing regarding buying a trailer for behind the 144 since I lost all that carrying capacity. I didn't buy the trailer and am glad. It was amazing how much stuff would fit into the trunk of that sedan. I suspect the 940 sedan is similar. And easy to fix.
