Excessive engine noise in passenger compartment '93 940 Turbo 240K 900

Mine is the only Turbo I have driven, so I don't have a lot to compare to. However, when I bought the '93 940T I thought the engine noise when accelerating was excessive. I think it is worse now. It is bad enough that it is generally not fun to drive.

I've had the car check for exhaust leaks to no avail. Am I just dealing with an old, worn-out engine or turbo or could it be something else?

The noise is a low grumbling that tends to vibrate the entire car on acceleration. I also noticed that going over bumps seems to increase it. Could that indicate motor mounts?

Thanks - Andy
